Since the Jomon Period, ( 9,200 years ago ) urushi has been an important part of Japanese society. Before the invention of synthetic paint and adhesives, urushi fulfilled that job and was widely used for everything from coating floors and walls to dishes and dolls and even bullets were coated with urushi to stop them rusting. I hope to introduce urushi as part of your daily life and to bring an aesthetic quality which can only be gained from a craft which has been passed on from generation to generation. Urushi’s classic beauty fits in well with modern interiors and enhances any dining experience.
Each piece is hand crafted using the highest quality materials and has taken a minimum of a year to complete. There are a great variety of techniques used, ( some of which are of my invention) and many of these pieces are one of a kind which cannot be replicated.
